CGC Grade 9.8
CGC's denotation of 9.8 is 'Near Mint - Mint.' Thus, it lies somewhere between the classic designation of Mint and the next lowest grade downward, Near Mint.9.8 books are far more common than 10.0 and 9.9, and collectors will often seek to attain 9.8-graded books as being the highest existing grades for their desired copies, especially with older comics which may never be found in the Mint-or-above categories.
Modern books, due to their recent vintage, are often considered undesirable if they grade out at less than 9.8.
