CGC Grade 9.4
CGC's denotation of Near Mint for 9.4-graded books is a common and desirable one.For many years comics were graded - and priced with price guide such as the Overstreet Price Guide - in such a way that Near Mint was considered, if not the highest grade available, then the highest grade for which a price could be determined.
Looking at advertisements for comics being sold by mail order in back issues, one constantly sees Near Mint as being the highest priced condition available. It wasn't until the advent of CGC grading that collectors began considering this to be a grade that was a step or two below the most desirable.
